Support Plan Regulations of Translator’s and Interpreters’ Association of Tehran in publication
Introduction:
At the moment, many novice translators in our country have difficulty in publishing their first book translated and publishers rely less on anonymous translators. If someone is willing to publish his work to enjoy the benefits of literati membership such as banking facilities and insurance, while completing his resume, he must spend high costs in order that the publisher agrees with the publication of his work.
Translator’s and Interpreters’ Association of Tehran, by virtue of the Articles of Association adopted by the General Assembly, is responsible for numerous strategic tasks, including maintain and protect the members’ rights and effective support of the translators’ business at Tehran. Accordingly, the Association provides the support plan in publication for the registered translators in three levels of anonymous translators, literati and localization of translation studies.
Article 1: Definitions
Anonymous Translators: Students or graduates of translation field of study in all languages, who have no published work so far.
Literati: The literati have at least two published works in specialized or public areas.
Localization of Translation Studies: Translation studies reach the desired and established position in Iran as a research and study field and now, it had reached a stage that is better to localizing for more advantages. So, Translator’s and Interpreters’ Association of Tehran will support the compilation and translation works in the field of translation studies and their publication.
Note 1: It is worth mentioning that the present support plan is only for the members of Translator’s and Interpreters’ Association of Tehran and the applicants shall insert the membership number in the application form.
Note 2: Translator’s and Interpreters’ Association of Tehran will provide the support plan in collaboration with the member publishers in publication of the compilation and translation works.
Article 2: General Conditions
Anonymous Translators: Membership in the Association; download, complete and submit the application for the support plan from the website.
Literati: Membership in the Association; registration of the earlier works; download, complete and submit the application for the support plan from the website.
Localization of Translation Studies: Membership in the Association; registration of the earlier research works and projects; download, complete and submit the application for the support plan from the website.
Article 3: Implementation Process
Dear members, you should follow the following process to take advantages of the plan:
- Completing the application form,
- Evaluating the proposed work for translation and agreement,
- Translating by the translator during the agreed schedule by the Association,
- Providing the translation for evaluation,
- Evaluating the quality of provided translation,
- Referring the work to the translator to make necessary changes and possible improvements,
- Receiving the final version of the work translated,
- Concluding contract by and between the translator and the publisher under supervision of the Association,
- Publishing process.
Remark 1: It is obvious that if the translation is ready and has not published yet, the translation process will not be required; and the work will be provided to the publication after agreement and evaluation.
Remark 2: According to the agreements between the Translator’s and Interpreters’ Association of Tehran and the fellow publishers in the present plan, the anonymous translators shall not pay any costs to the publisher for obtaining the required licenses and authorizations.
Remark 3: For the literati, the Translator’s and Interpreters’ Association of Tehran considers wages at a rate of 5 to 7 percent of the cover price for the translators in addition to facilitating the introduction of their work through the review and evaluation meetings, and introduction and press coverage of the book; this matter is included in the contract of the publisher and the translator and will be paid by the publisher.
Remark 4: For localization of translation studies and regarding its importance, the Association considers wages at a rate of 7 to 10 percent of the cover price for the translators or authors in addition to the abovementioned matters about introduction of the work (Remark 3); this matter is included in the contract of the publisher and the translator and will be paid by the publisher.
Remark 5: Providing the translators need a book to be introduced to them for translation, Translator’s and Interpreters’ Association of Tehran will introduce good works for translation, so the members could mention it in their application.
It is hoped that the Translator’s and Interpreters’ Association of Tehran could prepare the necessities for stronger presence of the novice translators in the professional areas and on the other hand, localized translation studies in the country more seriously.
