World Translation Day Press Conference Holds in Tehran

Press conference on the occasion of World Translation Day (September 30) was taken place at Tehran. 

 

 

Main objects of celebrating the national day of translators in Iran in coincidence with World Translation Day (September 30) were mentioned in the conference by Mohammadreza Arbabi, Chairman of Translators and Interpreter's Association of Tehran (TIAT). This celebration postponed until after the months of Muharram and Safar and it is planned to be held for the 4th time on November 9 in Tehran.

“Translators who translated Farsi works into their own spoken language will be evaluated by a committee of experts and the international prize for best translation in Iran is dedicated to the contest winner”, Arbabi said.

According to Arbabi all English  juvenile literature published in recent 5 years are eligible to participate in the contest and they will be assessed regarding translation quality, layouts and cover, distribution and post publication feedbacks. Saadi Foundation grants prize winner a Sabbatical Leave for 2 weeks or more in Iran to learn more about Persian literature.

“Selecting top entrepreneur of translation services, popular translator and expressing gratitude to knowledgeable and veteran translators are the other parts of the event”. He added

International Translation Day is celebrated every year on 30th September on the feast of St. Jerome, the Bible translator who is considered the patron saint of translators. The celebrations have been promoted by International Federation of Translators (IFT) ever since it was set up in 1953.
